Old Whoopers!

This past weekend we made a trip south to Aggieland (all one word!)  It has been a few years since I have been to College Station, and I barely recognized it.  Gone are the days when the campus was occupied by the corp of cadets, and women were far and few between.  The traditions, however, have remained the same and the students are as friendly now as they were in the 70's.
The universal Aggie greeting.

This old barn is on Hwy. 6 going into Bryan.  It is the first welcome sign to A&M that you will see, and then you know you are almost there.  Traditionally, the freshman class paints it with their graduating year.

When you go to an Aggie game, be prepared to stand!
So true!  It's the spirit of Aggieland.

Reveille's final resting place...facing their own scoreboard during the game.

A&M never loses.  They just get outscored.

Visiting the Bonfire Memorial was bittersweet.  One of the most significant Aggie traditions came to an end in 1999 with a tragic accident that took the lives of twelve students.  The bonfire represented the burning desire to beat the University of Texas.  The twelfth man (in the corp) was always ready to take to the field if the need should arise.  How ironic, twelve young Aggies...the spirit of Aggieland.

So many memories.  Good memories.
Gig'em!!!
